6 Underground – Netflix Review

6 Underground is the newest movie by Michael Bay, and it’s pretty much what you’d expect. Nonstop explosions, funny one liners, corny dialogue, poorly explored plots, and well did I mention explosions?

If you took Deadpool, Fast and the Furious, and Suicide Squad together – this is the movie that it would spit out, as someone who loves all 3 of the aforementioned movies/franchises – the first 20 minutes of this movie had me stoked. The introduction of the characters is amusing, it’s fast and intense, it’s instantly gory, the car chase and chaos is amazing.

What begins as an interesting premise, suffers quickly with the new introduction of a new team member, the premise then turns it into the same repetitive nonsense we’ve seen a million times, rather than stay differently and be unique as the initial 20 minutes would suggest, it becomes boring and I lost interest with the film quite quickly, which is disappointing for a movie with a 2 hour duration.

6 Underground is a stand out when it comes to the action and stunt sequences. The particular sequence where number 4 (played by Ben Hardy) parkours over rooftops is incredible, but this also showcases more faults of the movie production when you can clearly see the stunt-doubles face.

While this movie is beautifully shot, there is a lot of moments where it’s clear the actors don’t care what’s going on – and that transfers to the audience because most of the time I had no idea what was going on. There are a lot of strange editing choices, the timeline is continuously odd, and many of the scenes are abrupt. Perhaps I could overlook this if the characters were interesting, but sadly they were not. While I enjoyed Ben Hardy as No. 4 – I didn’t care for anyone else, even sad to say, Ryan Reynolds was a miss in this. Basically if you have watched Deadpool, you have seen this character.

The action scenes are incredible, and the soundtrack is super fun. If you want a super long chaotic music video, this is the movie for you!

If you want an enjoyable movie, with a well thought out storyline that would leave you wanting more of the story, this is sadly a hard pass.
