Back to the Feature: Warrior

With the release of Mad Max: Fury Road this week, we here at Novastream not only love to entertain you readers, but also educate as well. And each we week we will suggest a film which you may have not of heard or not seen, in relation to a upcoming release. This week Tom Hardy will be the focus before his turn as the iconic Mad Max!

The youngest son (Tom Hardy) of an alcoholic former boxer returns home, where he’s trained by his father (Nick Nolte) for competition in a mixed martial arts tournament – a path that puts the fighter on a collision course with his estranged, older brother (Joel Edgerton). – IMDB

Warrior came out in 2011, but don’t let the loss of money at the box office ($23 million on a $25 million budget) fool you into thinking this isn’t a quality movie. Not just a good movie, but arguably Hardy’s best performance. Hardy at the time had been working hard to get his body into shape as an MMA fighter, but also to play his role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises to be released the year after. What Hardy does, is not only bring the physical element to the role, but so much heart and pain. Which for us fans is great when that is unleashed in the ring.

Some call this movie “The Rocky movie for the MMA”. Now, I won’t get into that, but what I will say is i can is that i can see the comparison. A big reason for that is because of Hardy’s performance. When Edgerton and Hardy get on-screen together they both show the talent they have and it’s definitely worth your consideration and attention.
