In the latest DC Comic book adaption, The CW have taken a different source from caped crusaders and gone with a zombie detective, that’s right you heard me, a zombie detective. This show comes from producers Diane Ruggiero-Wright and Rob Thomas, best known for shows like Veronica Mars and 90210.
Live played by Rose McIver has it all, an amazing job as a doctor, a hunky fiancee Major played by Robert Buckley. After attending a party where all hell breaks loose, Liv wakes up in a body bag on the beach with bites on her arm and finds herself looking a lot paler than usual, oh yeah and craving the brains of a human for sustenance. Liv trades her job at the hospital for one at the morgue where she can conspicuously mix the brains of dead people in with her two minute noodles and hot sauce (yeah, it actually happens). When she discovers that when she eats the dead person’s brain, she gets a connection to them and can see how they died. She then uses this information to help a police officer catch killers and find justice for the dead.
Does this work as a show? Completely! It is a really entertaining and well cast show that immediately hooked me in. This reminded me a lot of Veronica Mars, just with an undead twist. The relationship between Liv and her fellow employee Ravi (Rahul Koli) who finds out about her condition and has agreed to help try and find a cure for her.
This show does however have the opportunity to fall into the procedural cop drama territory, but hopefully the writers are smarter than that and I look forward to the rest of the season. This is a refreshing entry in the CW line up and after some decent ratings on this episode, we should hopefully see the season out.
