Top TV Shows Of 2014

2014 was a great year for TV, more DC Comics superheroes graced our screens, our favourites returned and some new shows showed us just why TV is still alive and delivering some outstanding stories. So without further ado here is our 2014 Hot list for TV.

How To Get Away With Murder – this was the show that we nearly didn’t watch due to the strange name, but thank god we did! Once we found out that “Shonda Rhimes” was attached, we went all in! Not only did this show deliver on drama, but it also combined that classic who-dunnit storyline while delivering some of the steamiest sex scenes seen on network television.

The Flash – DC Comics swarmed network television with a host of quality superhero tv shows. The Flash stands out as by far the biggest hit of the season. DC decided to take the light hearted approach to the genre with bright and warm colours, along with a goofy and fun cast who actually have super-powers. This origins story delivers both a great story and stunning visual effects, with Grant Gustin as Barry Allen this is one of the hottest shows on TV this season.

Gotham – Everyone love’s Batman right? So what a grand idea to deliver an origins story about Batman, Catwoman, Penguin, The Joker and many other villains that emerge from Gotham city. This gritty and dark series has been gathering steam with high profile actors like Jada Pinkett Smith and jaw dropping performances from Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, this has become the most watched show on Fox.

Constantine – another DC comics show, this supernatural show on NBC revolves around John Constantine played by the debonair Matt Ryan as a demon hunter who can see the demons in the world around us. After a shaky start and not so stellar ratings, the show itself is actually good but finds itself in an already over-crowded supernatural tv show marketplace.

Bojack Horseman – an animated Netflix original series, this is more the style of American Dad than anything else, is a dark comedy with the voice talents of Will Arnett and Amy Sedaris. The mixture of gross out comedy and dealing with real issues like celebrity, suicide, fame and depression makes this an instant winner.

Marry Me – Happy Endings creator David Caspe follows up from Happy Endings with a same universe sitcom with Casey Wilson and Ken Marino as the two leads, the show has gone from strength to strength every week delivering some of the funniest one liners and with the addition of Derek from Happy Endings, what is not to love!

Jane The Virgin – not only the highest rated show on The CW (currently sitting at 100% fresh on R.T) from the makers of Ugly Betty, this dramaedy follows the life of Jane, a 23 year old virgin who is accidentally inseminated at her local doctors and when she discovers that the baby is her bosses, hilarity and drama follows. This well crafted story and good hearted nature has cemented this show as a MUST WATCH with outstanding performances and feel good vibes, this is one NOT to be missed!

Stalker – Kevin Williamson’s newest TV show seems his keeping with a “Following” vibe and enlisting Maggie Q and Dylan McDermott. It is edge of your seat gripping, with a stellar cast and soundtrack. If you like your TV hard hitting and nail bitingly hot, then this is the show for you!

Selfie – I was VERY wary about this show, but it proved to not only be hilarious and heart-warming but provide some of the best one-liners of any TV show this season. Although the show is now cancelled, you can catch up on the whole thing on Hulu.
